Hockey Canada has partnered with Respect in Sport, the country’s only interactive certification program to protect youth and enhance an organizations mandate for safe, fun and respectful environments for everyone. Under the Respect in Sport umbrella is the Parent Program. This is a one hour online course intended to educate parents on how to improve their actions towards other parents, players, coaches and referees, but also provides helpful tools and support to stand up to those who are exhibiting inappropriate behaviour in the rink. There is a $12 fee for the program and a permanent record is kept on your child’s file indicating that you have completed the program.
Arenas are intended to be locations of enjoyment for our children, their coaches and the officials, rather than places where players, coaches and referees feel intimidated, threatened, bullied or challenged in terms of their ability and actions. Respect in Sport assists parents in learning how to identify problematic behaviour in themselves and others and are given tools on how to avoid this behaviour.
Hockey Nova Scotia supports the Respect in Sport, Parent program and asks that you pass on this information to all your parents and encourage them to take the program. HNS continues to evaluate the Parent Program and the work done by Calgary Minor Hockey in making the program mandatory for all parents with the very strong possibility of making it mandatory in Nova Scotia for the 2011-12 season.
Anyone who completes the program on their own now will have it acknowledged on their child’s file and will not have to take it again. For more information go to http://www.respectinsport.com/
Thank you for another essential article. Where else could anyone get that kind of information in such a complete way of writing? I have a presentation incoming week, and I am on the lookout for such information.:)
