Adapted Physical Activity

Para Start - Funding Program

Offered by the Let Abilities Work Partnership Society, with support from the Recreation For All Foundation, the fund provides financial assistance to adults with a disability to participate in organized sports and recreational activities. Pictou County Para-Archery Program 

Northumberland Strait Shooters Para-Archers meet on Thursday evenings, 6:30 pm at the Civic Building in Westville. Equipment is provided and no prior experience is needed. Instructors assess needs on an individual basis and develop the tools and adapt training as necessary to allow the individual to participate in archery.

"If you can adapt your thinking to allow yourself to participate, then we can adapt our instruction to accommodate you within the program."

Wheelchair Curling Program

Local athlete and Let Abilities Work Partnership Board Member, Devin Forbes, is leading a wheelchair curling program out of the Bluenose Curling Club in New Glasgow. It is a co-ed program and no previous curling experience is required. For program details and times visit their Facebook page by clicking  <here>

Sledge Loan Program 

Everyone should have the opportunity to give one of Canada's favorite past times a try. Sledges allow persons with physical disabilities to get out and enjoy winter activities like skating and hockey with their friends and family. With support from the IWK Community Grant Program, sledges have been purchased for use in Pictou County.

Canadian Paralympic Committee

The CPC is responsible for creating an optimal environment for high-performance Canadian Paralympic Athletes to compete and win in the Paralympic and Parapan American Games, and by promoting their success, inspire all Canadians with a disability to get involved in sport. The next Parapan American Games will be held in Guadalajara, Mexico, from November 19-27, 2011, while the next Paralympic Games will be hosted in London in 2012.

Canadian Association of Disabled Skiers

The Canadian Association for Disabled Skiing is a volunteer based organization having as its main objective, assisting individuals with a disability to lead richer and fuller lives through active participation in recreational and competitive snow skiing and snowboarding.We are a national organization with 1130 disabled members and 1900 abled-bodied volunteers from all regions of Canada, committed to the idea that "SKIING IS FUN FOR EVERYONE".
