The positive influence a coach has on a young athlete is carried with that individual long after the season ends. Offering educational sessions like High 5 Sport is one way Active Pictou County supports the development of caring adults who volunteer to lead sport programs in our region.

High Five Sport is a five-hour training which is aligned with the FUNdamental and Learn to Train stages of the Canadian Sport for Life model and focuses on social, emotional and cognitive development of athletes. It is designed for coaches, instructors or volunteers providing direct leadership to children aged 6 to 12 in a competitive environment.

Coaches have a major impact on a child’s sport experience. The training is based in research and has been designed to assist coaches in handling top concerns such as dealing with parents, keeping children’s interest, ensuring fair play and creating an emotionally safe environment.

Active Pictou County is offering this session in conjunction with Sport Day in Canada 2014, a celebration of the power of sport.
